About PCC Safe Zones
The PCC Safe Zone Coalition identifies, educates, and supports Allies via training. Allies are individuals within the PCC community who consider themselves to be knowledgeable about the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQA) and/or undocumented people. Individuals who complete the training choose to provide support by displaying a sticker or lapel pin that indicates that they are an advocate and have cultural competence for those who are undocumented and/or LGBTQA. By building a community of Allies, we will foster and support greater student success.
Identifying Allies: The Safe Zones Decal
For most participants, the Safe Zone decal and pins identify them as compassionate, open-minded people who are willing to listen to student's concerns about LGBTQA & Undocumented issues. Safe Zone decals and lapel pins are used by Allies in order to show they have completed a workshop, have chosen to educate themselves about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities/undocumented students, and can direct individuals to campus and local resources. A person displaying a Safe Zone sticker or magnet has been through the required training and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for LGBTQA and Undocumented people.
